UNITS Addendum to User’s Guide

This addendum includes information that is not included in the Manufacturer’s Users Guide.

Feature Key Caps

Please contact UNITS if you would like to have any of the features that are named on the 22 preprinted named feature keycaps.

System Hold Feature Option Switch

This feature should remain on Standard Line Hold.

Programming Set Up

Enter Access No., Enter Area Code, Restrict 1+
Flash Time Set, Pause Time Set, and Voice Mail No. should not be programmed by the user; please leave these settings as is. Please see below for instructions for Live Dialpad.

Programming the Memory Buttons

(Note: Instructions on how to program the memory buttons are based upon the version of phone that you have. To determine which version you have, please refer to the label on the underside of your phone that states SP550 A __ B __. The number following the A will determine how to program the memory buttons. Only the first step is affected by the different versions; all other steps are the same.)

  • For versions A1 through A7: Press and hold the Store button for approximately 6 seconds, until “Enter Access No.” appears in the display
  • Or –
  • For versions A8 and higher: Press the Store button
  • Press and hold the Store button until Enter Access No. appears in the display
  • Press the desired memory button (“M-- No Content” or the current name and number for that memory key appears in the display)
  • Press the Store button (Enter Number appears in the display)
  • Using the dialpad, enter the desired number (if entering an off-campus number, enter a 9 before entering the 7-digit number)
  • Press the Store button (Enter Name appears in the display)
  • Using the dialpad, enter the name. Use the pause key if needed.
  • Press the Store button
  • Press the Disc button to exit or press another memory button to program other memory buttons

Additional Notes on Programming Memory Buttons

  • See the chart in the Users Guide for assistance in adding names and numbers.
  • To delete a digit, press the Delete button
  • To use another letter on the same key, wait until the cursor moves to the right
  • Caller ID records cannot be transferred to memory keys
  • You cannot edit a name or number; you will have to reprogram the entire memory button
  • You cannot delete a memory button; you can only reprogram over it

Adjusting Ringer Volume

  • Press the Store button until “Ring Volume 1-8” appears in the display
  • Press a number from 1-8

Turning Live Dialpad On or Off

  • Press and hold down the Store button until Enter Access No appears in the display
  • Press the Store button two more times, or until Live Dialpad appears in the display (the display will automatically change to read Press 1=On 2=Off
  • Press 1 to turn the Live Dialpad on (the phone will automatically dial a number that you input into the dialpad)
  • Press 2 to turn the Live Diaload off (the phone will not dial a number that you input into the dialpad until you pick up the receiver or press the Dial button)

Checking Voicemail

If you have UNITS voicemail on your phone, press the red button on your phone above VoiceMail to speed dial 2-4141.

Caller ID

If you have Caller ID, numbers only will appear on the display.

If you have an administrative DID number (292, 688, and 247), your number will be displayed to off-campus Caller ID phones as “Ohio State Univ. 292-xxxx”. If you have non-DID number (4-xxxx), your number will not be displayed.

You can block your number from being displayed by dialing *67. If you prefer, UNITS can block all outbound number delivery so that you would not have to dial *67. However, by doing so, inbound caller ID would also be blocked.
Caller ID is not available for OSU remote sites.

Headsets

UNITS offers headsets for your phone. Please contact your UNITS Account Manager or UNITS Customer Service at 688-HELP (4357).

Call Waiting

If you have call waiting, you will hear a tone to alert you of an incoming call. Data pertaining to the call will not appear on the display.

Extensions

Versions A9 and higher have an extension privacy feature. (Note: To determine which version you have, please refer to the label on the underside of your phone that states SP550 A __ B __. The number following the A is the version.) When an extension is in use, the message waiting light will illuminate solid on all A9 and higher versions.

Troubleshooting and Hints

  • *84 will not turn the message waiting light off. You must hold down the * key.
  • You cannot edit a name or number in the phonebook. To make a change, you must delete it and re-enter the new number and name.
  • If you cannot dial a 1 to begin a long distance call/auth code:
    • Press and hold down the Store button until Enter Access No appears in the display
    • Press the Store button 3 more times, or until Restrict 1+ appears in the display (the display will automatically change to read “Press 1 = Yes 2=No
    • Press 2
    • Press the Disc button
  • If the red button does not speed dial to voicemail:
    • Press and hold down the Store button until Enter Access No. appears in the display
    • Press the Store button 6 more times, or until Voice Mail No. appears in the display
    • Press 2-4141
    • Press the Store button
    • Press the Disc button
