OSU Wireless Web Site (wireless.osu.edu) Gets Facelift, Offers New Features 04/13/09
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) completed a project Winter Quarter that redesigned the wireless.osu.edu web site for Ohio State’s wireless data network. The primary goal of the redesign was to transform the site from a project-based site to a more, user-friendly, production-based site.
Key information on how to access and use the OSU Wireless network and recommended device configurations has been updated and separated on the site, based on different user affiliations (e.g., students, faculty and staff, etc.), to better address each group’s unique needs.
The site offers several new features and functions. The wireless coverage map, that indicates where campus wireless is available, now displays the floors of each building that have at least one OSU Wireless access point. Wireless users can click on the floors within a building to display the wireless coverage on that floor. The improved coverage map also provides streamlined navigation options for PDA’s, accessibility needs and printing.
Two new online forms have been added for use by campus departments and college units. The Request Additional Coverage form should be used to request new or additional OSU Wireless coverage in a campus building or area. The Register an Access Point form should be completed, as required by Ohio State’s Wireless Data Policy, if a department or college has any non-OSU Wireless access points.
The faculty and staff section offers a new link to TELR’s mobile learning site that guides faculty on how to take advantage of the wireless network and best integrate mobile learning into the classroom experience.
