UNITS Now OIT - Telecommunications and Networking
06/27/06
As of June 2006, UNITS, Ohio State's telecommunications department, changed its name to OIT - Telecommunications and Networking, a division of the Office of Information Technology.

The new name was first introduced to incoming students attending this summer's Orientation sessions. The rebranding will continue throughout the summer and fall utilizing a number of resources to educate the campus community of the change. UNITS items such as technician uniforms and the web site will also take on the new OIT brand over the summer. Existing printed materials, such as letterhead and billing paper stock, will be depleted and then replenished with the new name to minimize rebranding costs.

Originally established in 1985, UNITS became part of OIT in 2001. This strategic move allowed the university to capitalize on the synergies of the two departments, which handled different aspects of information technology services. Since that time, the combined groups have worked together on multiple projects such as South Campus Gateway and the OSU Wireless data project.
