Campus Cable TV Subscription Rate to Increase 06/21/06
Effective July 1, 2006, the monthly subscription rate for Ohio State's Basic Cable TV service will increase to $18.50 per month, per outlet. This is a $1.00 (5.9%) increase from the current subscription rate of $17.50 per month.
The rate increase is due to a continued rise in costs for cable TV programming. Programming costs have increased nearly 30% since 2004; yet, measures taken by OIT/UNITS, the campus cable TV provider, have successfully minimized these drastic increases to campus customers.
Compared to fees charged by cable vendors in the Columbus area for similar services (an average of $40 per month for approximately 70 channels), the new rate continues to be a great value for campus customers.
Basic Cable TV and other premium cable options can be ordered by faculty and staff for university departments and by students living in graduate, professional and family housing areas through OIT/UNITS. Basic Cable TV is provided as a standard service in all undergraduate residence halls. Ohio State's Cable TV services are not available in some university locations or in non-university buildings.
