OIT provides telephone services to students living in residence halls and university-owned apartments on Ohio State's Regional Campuses at Mansfield, Newark and Wooster (ATI and OARDC).
Local Telephone Service
Upon moving in, local telephone service, caller ID and call waiting are already active in your Mansfield, Newark or Wooster (ATI and OARDC) Campus residence hall room or apartment. These services are provided as part of your housing contract with the Ohio State’s Housing Office and do not need to be ordered.
Local telephone service includes touchtone dialing capabilities; free, unlimited, local and campus calling; and 9-1-1 access to the local Police or Public Safety Department in your county. To verify your telephone number, check with your OSU Housing Office or contact us during business hours at 614-688-HELP (4357).
Several optional services, such as Long Distance, voicemail and Internet Service (OSUWeb.net) are also available to you as an OSU student at Mansfield, Wooster or Newark Campus.
Telephone Equipment Needed
You will need to provide your own telephone equipment. OIT provides you with touch-tone dialing service. A touch-tone telephone will work best. Telephones that have pulse or rotary type dialing will also work. However, some features will not work when using either rotary or pulse type telephones. If you have questions about which type of telephone equipment will work in your campus room or apartment, contact Customer Service at 614-688-HELP (4357) for assistance.
NOTE: Cordless telephones will work in most campus buildings if they are programmed correctly. Refer to your equipment's manual to program your phone correctly.
Call Waiting Feature
This feature allows you to answer a second incoming telephone call, temporarily placing the first caller on hold.
How to use Call Waiting:
While talking with the first caller, you will hear a beep tone in your ear. Simply depress your telephone switchhook or flash/link button. This will place your first caller on hold and connect you to your second incoming caller. After you have finished your conversation with the second caller, depress your switchhook again and you will be reconnected with your first caller.
Caller ID
New for Fall 2006, Caller ID is a standard feature on the telephone line in your undergraduate residence hall room. The service provides telephone number identification only for incoming local and campus calls. A telephone instrument with a Caller ID display is required to utilize this feature.
*NOTE: A $1.00 fee applies for local and long distance directory assistance calls.
**NOTE: Off campus vendors may charge a fee for directory and operator assistance, which must be paid with a personal credit or calling card.
